A Message from the Principal,
Sailor Families,
Well, I feel like you have heard from me a lot lately. I am usually hyper aware of what and how much I communicate so that my words don’t become expected and go unnoticed. I am asking that as the days and weeks pass that you continue to read each message as though it was the first. As a school (and District) we will continue to communicate with you via school messenger for those very important updates. This will be our last “newsletter” until we are back in session. Hang tight and ride this out. Who knows what the next weeks bring us...take one day at a time and appreciate the little things and remember, “learning is everywhere”.
Though we are “closed”, we are virtually open. PLEASE contact us for anything you need:
NEW School Website: https://bayharbor.hssdschools.org/
NEW District Website: https://www.hssdschools.org/
As I stated before, our teachers are ready to provide the best digital learning experience around! If for any reason you have questions or need assistance, the teachers are still working (after spring break) and are ready to assist and interact with our learners. Though there was excitement in the air yesterday as they worked to further create these innovative learning experiences, there was heartbreak and tears. We didn’t go into this calling to be away from kids and to work with them digitally. What makes educators so great is the passion they have and the connections they make with each child’s heart.
I would like to end by asking these questions (don’t google them):
Let me ask you these questions….
Until next time, stay safe and take care, Bay Harbor Sailor families!

From your School Board
HSSD Graduate Profile: Responsible March 2020 First and foremost, we want to assure you that the Howard-Suamico School District is taking measures to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. For the most current updates as to how this health crisis is being addressed, please visit our website at www.hssdschools.org/covid19. Even in the midst of this all, the Howard-Suamico School District’s vision is to create an authentic, innovative, connected, and inspired experience for an ever-changing future. Throughout the year, the Board of Education monitors student performance in HSSD Graduate Profile seven characteristics. At the January 27, 2020 Board meeting, we discussed the characteristic responsible and progress being made to develop our students as responsible people who act with empathy and take ownership of the outcomes of their choices. Students have many opportunities to practice being responsible in their classes, as well as in extra-curricular activities both in and out of school. Students learn to be responsible for themselves by understanding and applying digital etiquette and ethics, by taking initiative to find, use and care for personal materials, and by using tools and strategies to be successful. Students also practice managing time wisely to meet deadlines and fulfill obligations. Students learn to be responsible for their community by taking initiative to find, use and care for community materials, and by understanding, recognizing, and engaging in service to meet the needs of others. We talked with teachers and students from multiple grade levels about their experiences learning and growing to be responsible. HSSD students create personal goals that can be measured, and they develop and implement action steps to work towards those goals. Seeing our students intentionally developing HSSD Graduate Profile characteristics is exciting and rewarding because we know they are being prepared to thrive in our complex and rapidly changing world.
