Once a Sailor… Always a Sailor By: Mrs. Pieschek On December 3, 2014 our school lost a great friend. James Hardy, a second grade student in Mrs. Otradovec and Mrs. Pieschek’s class, will be sadly missed but always remembered. The second grade families along with the Bay Harbor Staff raised a total of $526.16 to build a memorial and hold a celebration of life in honor of our dear friend James. On Friday, April 24, 2015 the second graders gathered to see an Autumn Flame Maple tree planted by Scenic View Garden Center and our own Mr. Roy. A granite memorial stone was placed next to the tree. The remaining money will be donated to the Bay Harbor Playground Project in honor of James and our students with disabilities. Thank you to all of the parents and staff members that donated their time, money and effort to make this memorial happen. Please check out James’ memorial at the entrance of Bay Harbor. We want to make sure that James and his family are always remembered and welcomed as “Bay Harbor Sailors.” Below are some photos taken at the Memorial Celebration for James Hardy - By: Becky Wright, 2nd- 4th Grade School Counselor Greetings Sailor Families! Our students were very interested in learning about AODA issues this month. I found out that many students have very personal connections to discussing alcohol, smoking, and other issues related to drug use. They were very intrigued to learn about the dangers, effects on the body, and pressures that are involved when it comes to people using drugs or alcohol in excess. Students asked many meaningful questions and were very curious. The main point that all students learned was that too much of any substance that alters the way our brain and body works is dangerous. All students received different lessons regarding effects of both smoking and alcohol abuse. It is a very important meaningful topic to discuss at home as well……Please consider taking a few moments to address any questions they have. Thank you! *************************************

Field Day - Friday, June 5th
Volunteers Needed! Calling all Bay Harbor Families - WE NEED YOUR HELP. We are looking for volunteers to help us with Field Day activities for 1-2 hours on June 5th. We are looking for people to assist with lunch, games, and to distribute the end of the day treat between 10:45 AM and 2:30 PM. If you are not familiar with Field Day, it is a fun filled event to celebrate the end of another school year. This event runs from lunch time until the end of the day. The students eat a picnic lunch and then head over to Idlewild Park for various games and finish the day off with a cool treat. This is a SUPER FUN event for ALL students but it takes many volunteers to make this day a success! If you are interested (and even if you can’t commit to an entire hour), please fill out the Field Volunteer Form that will be sent home with your child in the Take Home Envelopes TODAY and return it to the school office by May 22nd. If you do not receive the form and are interested in volunteering, please contact Rich Glen at [email protected] or you can click here to print off the form and send it in to Bay Harbor.
