A Message from the Principal,
Sailor Families,
January has had a rather fickle start as it relates to weather, but inside our school we are staying consistently focused on providing students with engaging and creative learning opportunities that are tailored to individual needs. This does not happen without a lot of time outside of the student school day devoted to professional learning and planning. Thank you for your continued partnership as we work to not only make Bay Harbor the best, but ALL of the HSSD schools and neighboring districts. Here are some timely updates.
Report Cards
Last week was already the end of the second quarter which means this Friday you will receive a message to be able to view the report cards. Please be sure to do this and have conversations with your child about their learning and goals.
Seesaw Digital Portfolio
Speaking of report cards, our digital portfolio system (Seesaw) has hopefully helped you to feel more connected with your child and classroom than ever before. As we strive for constant improvement, PLEASE take a few moments to provide us your feedback on a survey regarding Seesaw. We really appreciate your time and attention to this. You are a key part in the learning process and we need this system to work for you as well as the student. CLICK HERE
Creation Day
On February 2nd, teachers and staff will be participating in the second of three Creation Days. This day is strictly used for learning and creating new units of study. Our district is currently going through a strategic planning process (this happens every 3-5 years depending on goals that are set). Our key strategic focus is “Innovative Personalized Learning”. This will not get accomplished by accident and will take time and focus to truly change how instruction is delivered in the classroom. It will be an exciting journey and our kids will be better for it!
Leadership
As I hope you already know, this year, Bay Harbor is focusing heavy on Leadership. We are basing our work off of Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Leadership. Take a minute to ask your child about the habits and they should be able to talk your ear off about it. Each month we focus on a different habit which is kicked off with an all-school assembly. January’s focus is “Think Win-Win”.

Enjoy the rest of your week and as always, I thank you for your continued partnership and efforts.

Did You Know? Lisa Botsford [email protected] Referendum Update The Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution on an operational referendum for the April 3, 2018 spring election ballot. This referendum differs from the April, 2017 referendum, in large part, because of the duration. The Board listened to the community through surveys and the Community Task Force Committee. The feedback was clear that the recurring nature of the April, 2017 referendum was not acceptable. The 5 year duration on the current referendum allows the district to address the immediate needs of class size, compensation, and facilities maintenance. As the Board works to address its financial challenges, we are committed to providing as much information as possible. For more information about the referendum, please visit www.hssd.k12.wi.us/referendum. If you have any questions for the Board of Education, please reach out to your board member listed in this article. Speak Up Research Project Survey
The Speak Up Research Project polls K-12 students, parents and educators about the role of technology for learning in and out of school and represents the largest collection of authentic, unfiltered stakeholder voice on digital learning. It is important that the Howard - Suamico School District students, parents, staff and community participate to assist our district in acquiring information for future planning needs. The Speak Up 2017 online surveys open October 16, 2017 through January 19, 2018. Please read more at Speak Up 2017 Flyer. Speak Up survey link: speakup.tomorrow.org; Student Password for all students is hssdspeakup ON LINE FORMS For your convenience, below are links to some frequently used forms that you can print off at home, complete, and return to school if the need ever arises. MEDICATION FORMS
PLANNED ABSENCE FORM All absences from school, not related to an illness, injury or family emergency, must be requested in writing at least 48 hours in advance in order for the absence to be excused (family vacation for example).
