A Message from Mr. Ebeling,
Dear Sailor Families,
LITERACY
‘Tis the season for time away from school and time away from “learning”. Please attempt to tie some literacy into the holiday season by having students…
●Writing thank you cards and reading cards
●Journaling about their day or week
●Reading 20 minutes a day (to somebody special in the family)
●Draw, color, CREATE!
●etc...
THE HOLIDAYS
There is always something very special about this time of year. There is a spirit of joy and sharing that prevails during the holiday season. One of the best parts about this time of the year is the time we get to spend with our families. Remember a few of these things as you embark on the new year:
●Remember people, not things, matter most.
●Respect our children’s individual differences and appreciate each child’s unique capabilities.
●When we think good thoughts about our children, tell them.
●Don’t stress over the little things...make sure you are doing things that matter the most.
●Laugh a lot and Play even more. The kids love to see you be like them!
Try to live this season through the eyes of your child. It’s a magical time!
Have a Safe and Happy Holidays! Bring on the concert fun!

To celebrate cultures around the world, first grade students enjoyed a cultural feast. More than 15 different countries were represented in the traditional food prepared by our fabulous Bay Harbor parents Many of the kids were brave enough to try new foods. It was a great way for us to learn about new cultures! Check out the photos below... WARM GREETINGS at this time of year….I hope you have a sense of joy, love, and peace as the holidays approach. This time of year can also be very hard for some of our kiddos…..please reach out to me at any time if your child is struggling with the upcoming break, family visitors, etc. Your students have been working really hard on becoming good problem solvers and communicating their feelings. Students have been working in groups and completing roleplays revolving around:
Being that I am in their classrooms every 2 weeks, we work hard to review previous concepts and connect our learning to new topics. They are an absolute joy to work with….I have found out that most of them LOVE to do roleplays! The Giving Tree is in need of food donations. If you would like to donate, you can drop off non-perishable food items when you come to the Holiday Concert!
We will have collection boxes outside of the gym on the day of the Holiday Concert next week for you to drop off food donations to the Giving Tree. The items that they are in most need of at this time are: Hamburger Helper, Boxed Potatoes, Rice, Stuffing, Peanut Butter, Canned fruit, Macaroni and Cheese, Ramen Noodles, Pancake Mix, Oatmeal and canned pasta. Thank you for your generosity! Popcorn Poppers Needed on Tuesday Morning!
On Tuesday, December 22nd, we need 2-3 volunteers to come in around 9:00 in the morning who could help pop popcorn in the morning starting around 9:00 for our students to enjoy while they watch some Holiday movies that afternoon starting at 1:00. Please call the office if you are interested - 662-8800. Thank you so much! Box Out Cancer Event
Childhood cancer has affected many families in the Howard-Suamico School District, including families at Bay Harbor. On January 15th, Bay Port Decca Club will be hosting an event, "Box Out Cancer" at the boys basketball game to raise money for a local organization called "Families of Children with Cancer". This organization is strictly local and has helped many families in our area. The event will include a children's carnival and silent auction. A "Box Out Cancer" t-shirt order form was sent home with students this week. If you misplaced that order form you can click here to print out another. All families in the district are encouraged to attend this exciting event. Socks and Underwear needed for our Health Room! We are getting very low on socks and underwear for boys and girls. If you can donate new or gently used items to our health room it would be greatly appreciated. All sizes for kids are needed. Thank you! "Collecting" Information Prairie Farms Milk Caps Please enter all milk cap codes with a 2015 expiration date by the end of this month for them to be credited to our account. (The 9/15 exp dates will no longer be valid after December). If you are unable to enter these, please have the caps turned into school before December 22. Thank You! Box Tops Thank you to everyone who participated in our “Thankful” collection. As of last week, we collected 611 box tops - that’s $61.10! If you have any Box Tops expiring at the end of December or in the first few months of 2016, please turn those in by December 22 in order for us to get credit for them. After winter break, we are going to be having a fun Box Tops contest with the winning classroom earning a special incentive. More information to follow in January, but if you would like a head start, click here to print off a copy (or more!) and start collecting! Consider printing off extra copies to give to relatives over winter break so that they can help. Note: Box Tops that are expired or missing the product code will not count. Bonus Box Tops should be sent in separately and not attached to the collection sheets. Thank You! Label Your Child's Outerwear!
Please remember to put your child's name on their snow pants, coats, hats, boots, gloves and mittens. Do you know how many black snow pants there are? This will help us to locate the rightful owner of any lost clothing. A note about mittens: Please have your child wear waterproof gloves or mittens once it snows. The knitted kind gets wet when the kids play in the snow and then their hands get very cold! Thank you! EMERGENCY CLOSINGS AND DELAYS Inclement weather may necessitate the closing or delay of schools. If schools are closed this will also include the cancellation of extracurricular activities and the events in the community pool unless otherwise announced. Please listen to local radio or television stations for school closings or delays. Such weather may also deter students from going outside during the school day. Please be sure that students are dressed appropriately for the weather. In addition to local radio and television, weather conditions can be checked on-line at www.hssd.k12.wi.us. Click on the Wunderground link for local weather conditions and forecasts. Speak Up 2015 Online Survey
Parent, students and staff are asked to participate in this survey between October 1st and December 18th. Share your ideas about how to leverage technology in schools to promote better learning.
