Have a Great Summer!
From all of the staff at Bay Harbor
A Message from Mr. Ebeling,
How can this be….the last Wednesday of the school year? I wish we had at least another month! I was putting together the end of the year assembly video titled, “A year in review” and was flabbergasted at how much they grow in a year! It’s exciting….and sad! For students, the end of the school year is exciting. The normal schedule flexes a little and more time is spent reflecting on the wonderful things they did during the year and the growth they made. I enjoy being in education because of these celebrations. Being able to see students flip back a couple hundred pages or so in their writing journals to the first month of school and compare it to the last month, is AMAZING! Their eyes open wide, their mouth opens wider and then a smile comes across their face! Learning doesn’t occur by chance! Learning occurs because of an intentional effort and understanding by the teacher coupled with an acceptance and commitment by the student. We work tirelessly to get the growth that occurs….and then the last day happens...students get on the bus...it drives away….and then we don’t see them again until Open House (Aug. 27th, 2015). To keep their learning where it is at, students need to read, write and do math in little bits throughout the summer. Though it does not need to happen all day or even every day, it is very important to keep a “learning” schedule and make it a priority.
Thank you, Bay Harbor Families, for your on-going support of our school, our staff, and your children. Our Motto, “All Hands On Deck!”, truly means that everybody (including the student) plays a role in our success. On Tuesday, June 9th at 6:00pm you will receive an automated message from me and links to check the final report card. Please be sure to do this, celebrate the work your child did, and talk about strengths and areas to grow. Continue to compare your child with how they started and not with other kids (though it is easy to do)! Each child is different and brings with them special skills and talents that add value to our learning environment!
Until the final bell, we will continue to make the days count and NOT count the days!

Box Tops Update - Keep Collecting Over the Summer!
Thank You to everyone who helped collect Box Tops, Labels, UPCs, and milk caps this year. We almost made our Box Top goal by collecting $1,996 worth of Box Tops. Here is a summary of our school year totals:
While we didn't collect enough from the Tyson labels, Prairie Farms milk caps, and Loaves for Learning programs to earn money for our school this year, everything we've collected will count towards next year. Keep collecting over the summer! Check today's take home envelope for a convenient ziploc bag to use. Thanks for helping to support our school! Dawn Brandt, Volunteer Coordinator Fall Fest 2015 - Volunteer Opportunities!
Fall Fest is our largest fundraiser for our school, but it isn't possible to pull it off without parental help! If you are interested in finding out more about volunteering opportunities with Fall Fest, or volunteering to help out please contact Natalie Merhalski: [email protected] or Lesli Frank: [email protected], to be included in our summer planning meetings. We plan to get together to share information and start planning at a date to be determined, most likely early July. If you think you may be interested at all, please contact us to find out if you will be available to help make Fall Fest 2015 a success! Congratulations to Ms. Gantz on her recent Engagement!
Last week, an assembly was held to participate in an all-school flash mob. As the music played, different grade levels joined in at different times to an awesome, choreographed dance. As everyone was groovin' and shakin', Ms. Gantz was unexpectedly brought to the middle of the school gym to await the biggest surprise of her life! It was at that moment when her now fiancé, Bill, surprised her (And most of us!) by walking out of the storage closet where he had been hiding. He had a master plan and a ring! The gym erupted with applause and excitement when Bill got down on one knee to ask Ms. Gantz to marry him! Congratulations to Renee and Bill! We wish you the very best! A special thanks to Mrs. Pieschek and Mrs. Campbell for coordinating this exciting event! 4K
What is 4K? The Howard and Suamico Four-Year-Old Kindergarten Community Collaborative is a research-based initiative to provide learning opportunities through play-based instruction for all four-year-old children in the Howard and Suamico communities. This program is offered to all children who will be four years old on or before September 1, of any given academic year. Howard and Suamico 4K is an optional program that prepares children for school success. Howard and Suamico 4K is accomplished through a collaborative community approach where the 4K school experience takes place at several preschool and daycare sites within both villages. Classes are ½ day sessions that meet four days per week. Transportation is provided to participants living within the Howard - Suamico School District boundaries. All classes are taught by licensed Department of Public Instruction teachers. Guiding Principles

Please bring verification documents (birth certificate, immunization record, proof of residency i.e. phone bill, cable bill) to any of the elementary schools or District Office to complete the registration 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. For more information www.hssd.k12.wi.us select Schools (4K Program). Check out some of the fun that Mrs. Kiefer's class had on Tuesday for their classroom incentive- It was an Outdoor Adventure!
Playground Fundraising Update
Do you want to build a playground? Things are starting to come together and we will be needing your help. Our playground is broken up into 4 phases with the first phase being a ramp system, wheelchair accessible boat, hands on activity pads, etc. The PTO has been saving up money since the start of the school and based on that will be able to mostly fund Phase 1. We would like to do more if possible. Because of the help of key people with machinery, we will be able to save money in areas. We will get more information out soon regarding an itemized list of equipment if you know of anyone willing to donate or help.
