A Message from the Principal,
Happy New Year, Sailor Families!
Welcome to 2020...that’s a hard number to believe but understandable because of how fast days, weeks, months and years go by. I am excited to kick this new year off with you and work to make it our best year yet.
Digital Transformation
We are many years into our district “Digital Transformation” but always needing to look forward and to keep moving. Because of a refocus in certain areas financially, we have been able to have 1-1 iPads in grades 3-8 and Macbooks 9-12. Over the past year, we have been able to push this down to 2nd grade as well. Like anything, as the devices get older, they don’t work as efficiently. The district has been working very hard with Apple on the timing of a buy back program that would not only allow us to get the most money from current devices, but also able to add to our stock. I am happy to say this is happening and we will now be 1-1 iPads K-4. This gives our teachers and students so much more ability to do key things in the lower grades as well as to set up individual iPads exactly for that student to better assist with our goal of personalized learning. We work very hard at BH and HSSD to learn best practices in tech and no tech learning strategies and feel this is a step in the right direction! All ipads will be swapped out this Friday. All grade 3 and grade 4 students will need to bring their ipads, chords and charging blocks on Friday. Teachers have been working with students on backing up key things to google. Stay tuned for some more exciting things happening.
BH Get Fit For Kids
Another exciting thing happening at BH this January is the “BH Get Fit For Kids” event. With so many schools around the district and state supporting Jump Rope For Heart financially, BH decided to transition to helping different area agencies that work with helping kids. This year, BH is supporting the Child Life Center at St. Vincent Hospital. This program helps kids and families who are having to stay at the hospital due to things like cancer, traumatic injuries, etc. Thank you to our PE teacher, Chad VandenHoogen, for spearheading this event. Watch for more information coming out on this.
Have a great rest of your week,
Tony Ebeling, Principal

December 2019 Profile of a Graduate: Communication A recent 2018 Job Outlook Survey found that only 41% of employers ranked current students as proficient in oral/written communications which is one reason why the HSSD believes communication is a critical element in the success of our students regardless of post high school graduation plans. Communication is an important component of our District Profile of a Graduate.
