A Message from Mr. Ebeling
Welcome to Spring...in Wisconsin. You never know what you are going to get with the weather, but I think we can all smile knowing things are warming up. I want to thank you for your continued support this year! Thank you also for sending your students dressed to play and ready to learn. I want you to know how much your support and trust means to me as the Principal and to our Sailor staff as a whole.
The informational magazine drive is now finished. It was another successful year and we should receive a lot of free non-fiction texts for our classrooms to use during guided reading and for content / literacy integration. Again, thank you for your support.
Do you want to build a playground? As you know, we are looking to build an inclusive playground where ALL of our students can play together. The cost of the project will be large but broken into three phases. To be accessible, there needs to be rubberized flooring, ramps, and equipment that is accessible. See the message below from our PTO president, Hollie Linder, for more information. We will be looking for your ideas and support as we continue to move forward with this project.
Though you may not have a spring break for your work, your kids deserve this break from school so that they can come back re-energized and ready to rock n’ roll! This last stretch will fly bye, so hold on to your hats and keep the focus.
Enjoy,
Tony Ebeling, Principal

We had a lot of fun this month working on problem solving and communication. As we all know, some type of problem will always exist in our lives, whether large or small. 2nd grade learned how to be a problem solving S.T.A.R. They practiced how to STOP, THINK, ACT, and REVIEW. Whether the problem relates to friendship, family, or even a math problem, going through many scenarios proved that when we stop and think before we act, we are guaranteed a better solution. 3rd graders learned their own personal problem solving style. Ask your student whether they solve problems as a shark, turtle, butterfly, teddy bear, or an owl. When we analyzed our styles as a whole class, students learned and discussed the importance of the different roles and how to work together better with people who have a different style. 4th grade collaborated together in small groups to go through a 5 step process to solve some common 4th grade problems. Learning the 5 step process reinforced the point that problems are meant to be worked on, worked through, and that you need to plan out a solution for the best success. Following problem solving, we know that one of the key components of an effective solution is the importance of healthy communication! From learning about tattling vs. telling, to understanding the differences between being passive, assertive, and aggressive, our students now have some new tools to be better communicators. I found out that they love to rolepay! Deadline for Getting Approved to Volunteer is This Friday!
Parents and Guardians: Please be aware that this Friday, March 27th is the deadline for registering to volunteer and having a background check processed for the 2014-15 school year. If you plan on attending an upcoming field trip (4th grade class trip to Madison for example) please be aware that this needs to be completed in order for you to chaperone on a field trip. Call the office if you have any questions. Thank you!

Playground Expansion Fundraising Kick Off
As you may have noticed, we have officially kicked off our Playground Expansion fundraising efforts. If you were able to stop by and view the plans during the parent teacher conferences you know how excited we are to have the first wheelchair accessible playground in the district!! This project will be broken into three phases, with each phase costing around $35,000. Our goal is to raise the funds for the first phase as quickly as possible so that our kids can be greeted by phase one when they come back to school in the fall!! Since the PTO has saved every year since our doors opened, I am thrilled to announce that we are over halfway to our first phase goal!!!!! To build on this, we will be collaborating with many businesses to create "Bay Harbor Night" which will enable us to receive a percentage of total sales at participating eateries and home businesses. These events will be a fun way to get together as a community and enjoy each other's company all while supporting our fundraising efforts. Please watch this Facebook page and your Wednesday Newsletter for these events and remember if you don't feel like attending these events, you can always click on the "go fund me" link to make a personal donation. http://www.gofundme.com/nody1o We thank you in advance for any support you can give!! Hollie Linder, PTO President SAVE THE DATE - PTO Family Fun Movie Night - Friday, April 17th - 6:30
Our PTO Family Fun Movie Night is on Friday, April 17 at 6:30pm! The movie will be “Jack and the Beanstalk”. This is the English fairy tale version with a modern day spin on it, and will be enjoyed by both children AND parents. Made in the year 2010, the cast includes great appearances by Katey Sagal as Jack’s mother and Gilbert Gottfried as Grayson. Popcorn and Refreshments will be sold. Click here for more info. Hope to see you there! PENNY WARS!
THIS WEEK The Student Council's annual "Penny Wars" will take place every day THIS WEEK in the hallway near the library. Each grade level will have a jar for coins. Students may drop off coins into the jars from 8:30-8:45. Pennies add to the grade level jar total and silver coins and bills subtract from the grade level jar total. Bring in your pennies for your grade level and the bills and silver coins for other grade levels! The grade with the highest amount of money will earn a special incentive and all grade levels that participate will earn a treat. The money earned will help fund the upcoming school-wide SAGA field trip. Thank you! 4th Grade Music
