Message from the Principal
Dear Bay Harbor Families,
Can you believe that the first quarter of the year is already over? Report cards will be coming out on Friday and as mentioned in previous communications, you will get a message stating that “Report Cards are Ready to Review”. With the increase in accountability (State Report Cards), ramping up of curriculum (Common Core State Standards) and the deeper integration of technology into learning (Digital Transformation), the state of education is changing. What is not changing is the dedication our staff has towards doing what is best for kids. It is observed daily that our students are rising to the challenges and are embracing the change. Our learners will be better learners for the work we are doing. No longer is it just acceptable to “memorize” facts. It is now imperative that our students build a deeper understanding of the material, while learning to work collaboratively with others on a rigorous outcome that they create.
Prior to report cards coming out, I invite you to read more about these changes by following the link at the end of my message! Thank you for your continued partnership! CLICK HERE to read more regarding the reporting process.

Tony Ebeling, Principal

With the winter season fast approaching, we want you to be aware of the policy for any school closings... click here for more information Notes from the District Nurse
As the weather gets colder and we all start spending more time indoors it increases the chances of head lice being brought into your home and into school. District policy (8450a) pertaining to head lice can be found under Administrative Policies on our district website's Parent/Student menu. Lice do not cause disease but are considered a nuisance. Please make it a practice to watch for signs of itching or scratching heads and inspect your child’s hair regularly for signs of head lice. For current information regarding head lice and other health issues, click here! Speak Up 2013 Survey- complete the survey and help your child's classroom win a popcorn party! The Speak Up 2013 Survey is open. We are asking students, staff and parents to participate in Speak Up and share your ideas about technology in schools to promote better learning. Thanks to the responses we received from you, we were able to put over 700 iPads and 1300 Mac Book Air devices into the hands of our students. Look for this logo on your school website to participate in the survey. You can also click on the logo and begin the survey. The class in each school with the most students participating in the 2013 Speak Up 2013 Survey will win a popcorn party in December with a group photo featured on Facebook and in the next district newsletter. American Education Week American Education Week—November 18-22, 2013. This week presents all Americans with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate public education and honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education. As we celebrate education in Howard-Suamico, your actions and attitudes are proof positive that education is a powerful force. The student’s world is changed through learning. It is not limited, however, to a few subjects or simply “knowing” material. It transcends a grade on a paper, an answer on a quiz or a letter on a report card. When knowledge influences a student to think deeply about whom they are - and their personal responsibility as part of a larger community - we all benefit. When education does this, it becomes a catalyst for positive transformation. The world is changed through people who understand life and contribute their knowledge to making it a better place. On behalf of the 5,857 students, and their families, the Howard-Suamico School District thanks you. Join us in celebrating the people who are committed to providing a great educational experience for every child! Damian LaCroix, Superintendent School Store is Coming! Volunteers are Needed!
